responsibilities etiquette conditions
No pressure, no hurry, and no racing to cover great distances.
The accent is on clear water, beautiful surroundings, lazy time and stress meltdown.

Skipper and hostess Responsibilities
Skipper and hostess services begin with the vessel check-in procedure (usually on Saturday afternoon) and end with the vessel check-out at the marina (usually on Friday afternoon).
The skipper will plan and follow an itinerary in agreement with the guests. However, the skipper has full authority to modify the itinerary when required for safety reasons, weather conditions, or other circumstances beyond control. This may include changes to ports, marinas, or overnight berths.
Any guest-requested itinerary changes will be considered by the skipper, with the final decision based on safety, weather, and navigational feasibility.
Guests may choose between a skipper-only service or a skipper and hostess service.
When chartering a yacht with professional crew (skipper and/or hostess), the charterer is required to provide a private cabin and access to a head/shower for each crew member.
Crew food is at the charterer’s expense. Breakfast and lunch are usually taken onboard, while dinners are taken ashore. Guests may invite the crew to dine with them or, if preferred, provide a separate meal allowance. The customary allowance is approximately €30 per crew member per meal.
Good communication between guests and crew is essential for a safe, smooth, and enjoyable charter experience.
Skipper
The skipper plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable sailing experience. His responsibilities include steering the boat, navigation, route planning, ensuring safety on board, maintaining exterior cleanliness, and handling minor repairs. While he will tailor the route to your preferences whenever possible, safety is his top priority, and he will not compromise on it.
The skipper is also a valuable source of knowledge and guidance. He can offer practical advice, recommend interesting places to visit, suggest activities, answer your questions, and even teach you the basics of sailing and boat handling if you’re interested.
As the master of the crew and the yacht, the skipper has extensive knowledge of local conditions and closely monitors weather forecasts. Based on this information, he determines the safest routes and anchorages. His decisions should always be respected, as he carries the primary responsibility for everyone’s safety on board.
Hostess
The hostess is an integral part of your sailing experience, ensuring both comfort and convenience. Her duties include general cleaning, light cooking, and provisioning throughout the trip in coordination with the skipper. With her local knowledge and experience, she knows where to find the best products and can offer valuable tips and recommendations for both on-land and on-water activities. She’s also great with kids, making her an excellent choice for families, and assists the skipper during specific maneuvers when needed.
The hostess prepares two light meals daily – breakfast and lunch every day and dinner twice a week. On the other evenings, guests typically dine in local restaurants, but alternative arrangements can be made if desired. Dinner preparation is not usually part of the hostess’s services but is a special feature on our cruises. You can expect fresh, well-prepared local dishes, such as pasta and salads, but don’t be surprised if the hostess occasionally treats you to a two-course lunch with dessert!
With the hostess on board, you can relax and enjoy a seamless sailing holiday, filled with delicious meals, personalized care, and insider insights into your destination.
Guests
We take care of everything so you can relax and enjoy your sailing experience. However, there are just a few responsibilities on your part:
- Listen to the skipper: This is for your safety and enjoyment, especially during mooring, anchoring, and other maneuvers.
- Treat everyone with respect: Politeness and fairness go a long way in creating a great atmosphere on board.
- Follow the charter company’s guidelines: This includes proper use of the onboard facilities, such as toilets, showers, and the kitchen, to ensure everything runs smoothly.
And most importantly:
Don’t worry, be happy!

Experience the Freedom of the Sea: A Unique Yacht Holiday in Croatia
Being at sea offers a unique sense of freedom—a luxury that allows you to wake up in a new destination every day, explore hidden bays and coves, and enjoy a completely different perspective of the stunning Croatian coastline. Some places take on a whole new charm when approached from the sea, their ports and landscapes revealing a beauty that can only be truly appreciated from the water.
A sailing yacht holiday in Croatia is a truly special experience, unlike any other type of accommodation on land. It’s not just about the destinations you visit but also about the journey itself. Life on a yacht creates a unique social environment, fostering camaraderie and shared adventures among crew members.
Whether you’re a first-time sailor or an experienced yachtsman, there are unwritten rules that everyone should respect while onboard. These guidelines ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all, regardless of the type of vessel you’re on.

Start Your Croatian Yacht Adventure with Patience and Politeness
Kick off your holiday the right way by understanding that patience and good manners go a long way when hiring a local skipper in Croatia. Proper etiquette begins the moment you arrive at check-in. To ensure a smooth process, we recommend arriving on time with all necessary documents ready. During peak season, check-in counters and marina technicians can get very busy. We suggest having a couple of people handle the check-in process (alongside your skipper), while others gather provisions (if there’s no hostess) or relax with a refreshing drink. If you use a cart to transport your gear to the boat, return it promptly so others can use it too
Living Aboard: Shared Spaces and Mutual Respect
Living aboard a yacht means sharing the cabin, toilet, and kitchen with your crewmates. Understanding and tolerance are key to enjoying this unique boat adventure. From experience, we know that cabins are primarily used for sleeping, as most of your time will be spent outdoors on the deck, soaking up the stunning Croatian coastline.
The Barefoot Rule: Protecting Your Boat
Always remove your shoes before boarding the boat. If you must wear shoes, opt for soft-soled boat shoes to protect the deck and maintain a safe environment.
Water, Galley, and Electricity: Use Resources Wisely
Water on a boat is a precious resource, so use it sparingly—especially in the shower. Refilling water tanks can be challenging and expensive. The galley and refrigerators are compact, so plan simple yet delicious meals. Electricity is generated by batteries, which are charged by the engine and, on some boats, solar panels. Be mindful of your energy usage by avoiding excessive lighting and refrigerator use.
Packing Tips: Soft Luggage for Limited Space
While cabins on a sailing boat are designed for comfort, storage space is limited. We recommend bringing soft luggage that can be easily folded and stored, as hard-shell suitcases take up valuable space.
Your Skipper and Hostess: Safety and Comfort First
When you hire a skipper in Croatia, remember that their primary role is to ensure your safety and comfort. The skipper knows the boat’s limits and will prioritize your well-being throughout the journey. Similarly, the hostess is there to make you feel at home and ensure a pleasant experience. Treat the crew with respect and understanding, and care for the boat as if it were your own..
Protecting Croatia’s Marine Environment
Help us preserve the beauty of Croatia’s seas by avoiding pollution. Never throw cigarette butts or garbage overboard. Opt for eco-friendly detergents, shampoos, soaps, and sunscreens that are safe for marine life. Avoid taking anything from the sea or walking in shallow waters—swim instead to protect the delicate ecosystem.
Charter bookings and terms of payment
Here is some general information you can use as a guideline. These conditions can vary depending on the charter company’s rules.
1. The price for yacht charter (accommodation rate) includes VAT on accommodation, the use of vessel and equipment according to the applicable Price list, bedlinen, auxiliary rowboat, gas, autopilot, GPS, usual services provided by the Charter base at the time of check-in and check-out, mooring expenses in the registry port.
2. Yacht charter price does not include fuel, marina and mooring expenses in ports outside the registry port, port taxes and other fees such as national park entry fees, food and beverages, and tourist tax.
3. After the yacht charter reservation has been confirmed, the payment is to be made as follows:
35% (can vary depending on the charter company) in 7 days after the booking is confirmed
